Tattoo Aftercare

For the first several days, it is normal for the area that was tattooed to be swollen, feel warm and slightly tender to the touch. You are welcome to use over the counter anti-inflammatories and pain relievers as preferred, at your own risk, according to the manufacturers recommended dosage, to ease discomfort.

For medium-larger pieces:

I highly recommend the rest, elevation and ice method if needed.. if icing the area, ONLY do so for no longer than 20 minutes and make sure there is a barrier layer, like a kitchen towel or t-shirt, between the ice pack and the skin.

Your tattoo will also produce blood and plasma over the first few days, and this is a normal response to any surface abrasion - type wound, which is what your healing tattoo mimics.

If given Derm Shield:

Remove the bandage (in the shower) after 48-72 hours. Blood and plasma is produced during that first 24-48 hours and it is normal for it to pool under the wrap, which actually helps aid healing. It may dry itself up after a couple days, that's totally normal. Remove the wrap under running water similar to a command strip, gently pull from the edges away from the tattoo, not across and over it.

If not using Derm Shield

Please remove bandaging within 2-3 hours and skip to the next step.

Gently Wash the Tattoo using fragrance-free antibacterial soap (such as Dial) and warm water. Remove all traces of blood and plasma, as this will cause scabbing. Do not scrub the tattoo during the two-week healing period. Dry with a clean paper towel and leave it alone for a minute or two.

Repeat the cycle of washing with antibacterial soap, as needed, and pat dry once more with a clean paper towel.

Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare, such as coconut oil or Hustle Butter (just a dab will do) to the tattoo about 3 to 4 times per day for the next 5 days, just enough to work it into the skin and moisten and protect your tattoo.

Make sure you wash the tattoo in between applications, and NEVER double dip!

NEVER touch your tattoo without first washing your hands.

You may switch to an unscented moisturizer such as Lubriderm, Eucerin, coconut oil or cocoa butter for the remainder of the healing process.

Please avoid long showers, baths, oceans, pools, hot tubs and saunas for at least 2 weeks.

Your tattoo will become very itchy during the healing process, refrain completely from scratching, as this may result in damaging your tattoo.

Minor scabbing or flaking of the skin is normal as your body heals and regrows surface layers of the skin, and varies on an individual basis.

Stay away from the sun or cover your tattoo from the sun during the healing process. NEVER apply sunblock to a tattoo that is still healing.

Please consult a physician at the first sign of infection (such as excessive redness, swelling or discharge.)

Thank you! Happy healing! We hope to see you again. :)
